El gran agujero azul

Ven a Belice y conoce uno de los más increíbles y hermosos fenómenos naturales, el Gran Agujero Azul. Se encuentra cerca del centro del arrecife Lighthouse, un pequeño atolón ubicado a 100 kilómetros de la costa continental y la Ciudad de Belice. El agujero es de forma circular, y cuenta con más de 300 metros de ancho y 123 metros de profundidad. Se formó como un sistema de cuevas de piedra caliza durante el último período glacial, cuando los niveles del mar eran mucho más bajos. Como el mar comenzó a subir de nuevo, las cuevas se inundaron, y el techo se derrumbó. Se cree que es el fenómeno más grande del mundo en su género. El Gran Agujero Azul es parte del Sistema de Reservas de la Barrera del Arrecife de Belice, Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco.

Come to Belize and meet one of the most amazing and beautiful natural phenomena, the Great Blue Hole. It is located near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll located 100 kilometers from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is circular in shape, and has more than 300 meters wide and 123 meters deep. It's formed as a system of limestone caves during the last ice age, when sea levels were much lower. As the sea began to rise again, the caves were flooded, and the roof collapsed. It is believed to be the world's largest of its kind phenomenon. The Great Blue Hole is part of the Reserve System Belize Barrier Reef, a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
